Repowering with Russo
Service is one of our many specialties here at Russo, but did you know that we repower equipment with new engines to keep them running like new even after years of use? We teamed up with Vanguard for a video detailing the repowering process, highlighting how simple, affordable, and versatile this service can be for your fleet!
When to Consider a Repower?
- The engine has failed
- The equipment’s performance has faded
- The machine has exceeded the number of hours that guarantee peak performance
When you’re confident that the machine has more life, a repower might be your best bet. Russo repowers equipment all year long but any downtime you have is a perfect time to get this service completed because, as our skilled service mechanic Charlie Fletcher says in the video, “Downtime is better than crunch time”!
What are Some Common Concerns that Make Repowering the Right Solution?
- The potential cost of repairs
- The potential cost of purchasing a new unit
- How quickly you need that machine back in action
- The warranty that covers the equipment
What Can be Repowered?
Almost any 4-cycle engine-powered unit can be repowered including:
- Snowblowers
- Push mowers
- Large equipment
- Large area mowers
- Compact utility loaders
- Toro Dingos
- Boss Snowrators
- Much more!
Why Repower Instead of Fixing the Engine or Buying a New Piece of Equipment?
New equipment can be expensive, costing you thousands of dollars for a new addition to your fleet. Whether you’re a landowner, landscaper, or contractor, installing a new engine can be as little as half the cost of the original equipment that was originally installed. It’s also much quicker than taking the engine apart, diagnosing the failure, and re-piecing everything back together to get that unit back up and running. This means that your equipment will less time in the shop and more time getting the job done!
What Do We Use to Repower Your Equipment?
We repower with the most popular engine brand names: Briggs & Stratton, Honda, Kawasaki, Kohler, and Vanguard. If you prefer an updated & technologically advanced EFI engine, we can install one in the place of a carbureted engine. If you prefer traditional, we can even do the opposite and repower with a carbureted engine in an EFI’s place. Brand preference is also considered, so if you use one brand over another, substitutions can be made!
What’s the Difference Between EFI and Carbureted Engines?
Electronic Fuel Injection engines, or EFI engines for short, inject fuel directly into either the engine manifold or the cylinder. With this functionality, EFI engines are able to run more efficiently, increasing the fuel economy of your machine which helps combat against rising fuel costs. Improved startup is also a benefit of an EFI engine, providing you with an easy, chokeless startup that makes both hot and cold restarts much simpler. Ultimately, upgrading to an EFI engine can help even out the unit’s performance and provide more power. With a greater up-front cost, EFI engines can be daunting, but the savings and reliability that come with these tech-infused engines can be staggering in the long run.
What are the Benefits of Repowering?
The biggest thing you’ll notice after repowering is more power! From a sheer increase in engine horsepower to just the way your machine moves, power will be at the forefront of immediate success. This will allow you to work more efficiently and save you time and money in the long run.
What Can You Expect from a Repower with Russo?
Our service department is staffed with experts ready to walk you through any repower. In the video below, Josh, Charlie, and Eloy explain our process: starting with determining whether a repower is the right choice for your machine. They will then research which engine will fit best and provide a detailed quote. Once you agree and the engine arrives, our team will retrofit every connection including wiring, cables, mounting hardware and exhaust systems. After that, your machine is ready to get back to work!
