Tips for Using Rock Salt and Ice Melt
Russo Power Equipment sells Rock Salt & 5 Power Melt blends: Purple, Red, Blue, Orange and Green.
- Purchase your salt and ice melt now. You don't want to wait until the first snow- when everyone is rushing into stores trying to find what they need. All Russo locations sell packaged ice melt and rock salt.
- Make sure you are applying your ice melt or salt at the right time. For snow that is heavier and for sleet/freezing rain, make sure to apply early. Make sure to shovel up excess product when finished.
- Use a spreader so that your ice melt or salt is only being applied on areas that you want it to be. Make sure you're using the correct amount as well. Too little will not give you the results you're looking for and too much is wasteful and can damage hardscapes.
- Use gloves when working with your ice melt and salt, especially products that contain calcium or magnesium chloride.
- Properly store your ice melt and salt. Try to avoid storing it in an area with a lot of sunlight. To protect your product against moisture and air, you should keep your ice melt in air tight bags. This prevents the ice melt and salt from absorbing moisture which will help prevent degrading, clumping, and hardening.
